Ductless heat pumps provide both heating and cooling just like standard air-source heat pumps. They have two main components: an outdoor compressor/condenser and an indoor air-handling unit. A conduit housing the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing and condensate drain link the outdoor and indoor units.

Ductless heat pumps, as the name implies, do not require a duct system. They offer flexibility for zoning, or heating and cooling individual rooms. Many models can have as many as four indoor handling units connected to one outdoor unit.
